Annual Veterans Day Parade and Day Of Honor
The Annual Veterans Day Parade and Day of Honor takes place every year on the Saturday before Veterans Day in downtown Milwaukee. The Parade steps off at 1100 and ends at the War Memorial. The parade boasts over 1000 veterans and military marching in the parade from all over southeastern Wisconsin as well as floats, marching bands, baton twirlers, and more. The parade would not be complete without a few jeeps and tanks as well.
In addition to the parade, our veterans and military are also treated to a Day of Honor. Activities include a breakfast in the staging area, the post parade reception which includes a hot meal, entertainment and door prizes, a flyover, an essay contest for school children, and military displays at the War Memorial. The day ends with a Memorial Service at the Reflecting Pool to honor those we have lost in service to our country. Veterans and military participating in the parade also receive commemorative posters at the Parade Kick-Off Party one month before, and commemorative dog tags and programs on parade day.
Other Programs Include:
Five for Freedom – Citizens can donate $5.00 in honor of the special veteran in their life. Names of the honorees are listed in the Annual Veterans Day Parade program and on our website.
Operation My Veteran – For a $5.00 donation, citizens can pick from a variety of dog tags. The dog tags contain the name of an actual Wisconsin veteran. The veterans name can be accessed on our website where you can find information about your veterans experiences in the military.
